Basement Renovation…before / mid process
So just over 2 years ago we moved in to our house. When we decided to sell our house and look for something bigger we were pregnant with our last and new we were already tight on space. So like most people we made our list of “wants” and “necessities” part of our wants was 5 bedrooms…now I know that is hard to come by. So when we found our dream home and it was only 4 we sacrificed that item figuring the 2 littlest girls could share a very large bedroom (small, small closet).
Well if you have kids you know that they all sleep differently and require different amounts of sleep. Some are heavier sleepers then others. Well the girls just weren’t meshing together…at all. As in waking up at like 4:45-5:15 a.m. And although I don’t mind getting up early – to be ALONE this was not boding well for anyone. So we moved Vida (our just 5 year old) downstairs with Olivia (our 12.5 year old) into a very small bedroom. It was summer, they had fun, Vida slept on a mini cot – something had to give. This brought us to this…
Our basement had a kitchenette in it that was not super useful for us. The shape of basement also was an “L” with lots of windows…so we thought hmmm….couldn’t we throw up some walls, add a closet, rip out the kitchen and BAM add another bedroom! Well yes we could! We called up our handy-man and he confirmed that it was a brilliant idea, not only for additional space but adding another bedroom would only look good for re-sale (if we ever sell). So the renovation started in December!
I thought I would share some before and mid project pictures with you! Our painter just finished…next comes the flooring which has just arrived at my house as I type this! I’ve been noodling over the furniture, which is always a major buying decision. These are things I’m looking for yet and if you know of a good place to either order online or a store to go to – please email me!
1. Area Rugs – we’re doing laminate wood floors in the entire basement
2. Large, LARGE super cool, modern pieces of artwork for 1 wall
3. A daybed for Olivia’s new room, as Vida has staken claim to her current daybed
Home projects are always fun for me…but they can also very easily get financially out of hand, so I like to take my time on purchases like decor and furniture. Those are not the largest ticket items but will definitely push you over your budget if you’re not conscious. I also struggle to find just the right pieces for my house so I figure taking my time is better then buying, not liking pieces that eventually end up on the garage sale 🙂
Have an amazing weekend! We are booked with volleyball, flooring installation and family time!!
